Teenage Employees? Celebrate Red Ribbon Week This October

Not only is it important for adult employees to be drug-free, but teen employees as well. This year, the theme of Red Ribbon Week is “Your Future is Key, So Start Drug-Free.” Staying drug-free as a teen and young adult is key to future success in being drug-free as an adult. This is only the beginning of pushing back against America’s drug epidemic.

Take the Pledge and Support Employees

Red Ribbon Week isn’t only about encouraging kids to stay away from drugs but for adults to do what they can to support the effort and stay drug-free in order to set a positive example.

The Pledge

Redribbon.org has set out a few guidelines for adults to follow in order to encourage kids.

  • As parents and citizens, we will talk to our children and the children in our lives about the dangers of drug abuse.
  • We will set clear rules for our children about not using drugs.
  • We will set a good example for our children by not using illegal drugs or medicine without a prescription.
  • We will monitor our children’s behavior and enforce appropriate consequences so that our rules are respected.
  • We will encourage family and friends to follow the same guidelines to keep children safe from substance abuse.

Supporting Teen Employees

Show your concern and support by participating in Red Ribbon Week October 23-31st. Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42 percent less likely to use than those who don’t. Having another trusted adult, such as an employer, discuss the importance of being drug-free is a terrific way to start bringing down the teen drug and alcohol abuse rates. Remember that teens don’t always want to listen to or believe their parents and teachers so, if you are an employer, do your part to create a drug-free future for America.
